Painful moment Rangers’ Alexis Lafreniere mistakenly tips goal into his net, killing New York’s comeback attempt and giving Florida Panthers a 1-0 lead in Eastern Conference Finals

Alexis Lafrenière had a playoff moment he’d like to forget on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. 

The New York Rangers appeared to be mounting a comeback against the visiting Panthers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals until the left wing inadvertently dipped the puck into his own net, giving Florida a 2-0 lead with three minutes to play. 

The Panthers’ Sam Bennett would add an empty netter to push the score to 3-0 as Florida stole Game 1 in New York. 

The first pick of the 2020 NHL Draft, Lafrenière had been enjoying a breakout year after scoring 28 goals and adding another 29 assists during the regular season – both career highs.
