SUBSTITUTIONS FOR FC DALLAS
ON: Tsiki Ntsabeleng, Ema Twumasi
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR INTER MIAMI
ON: Robbie Robinson, Leonardo Campana
YELLOW CARD – Sergio Busquets
This is a little funny because Busquets does not touch Velasco at all, but he falls down and gets punished anyways
Yedlin’s low cross cleared by Jesus
The fullback tried finding Taylor at the back post but its cleared
Hydration break number two of the night takes place
It’s crunch time for Lionel Messi.
They’ve been clinical at times but they’re also severely exposed for counter attacks – which has burned them multiple times already.
The question remains: can they hold on defensively while pushing up field to get the win or to tie the match?
SUBSTITUTION FOR FC DALLAS
OH MY GOD ITS AN OWN GOAL!!!!
FCD 4-2 MIA
Arriola tries to cut this back to Velasco and Taylor goes sliding in to clear it. He boots it straight into the back of his own net! Unbelievable!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL
FCD 3-2 MIA
It’s Benjamin Cremaschi! Just seconds after coming on the pitch!
Jordi Alba cuts it back across the mouth of goal to put it on the feet of the 18-year-old from Miami to bring the Herons back within one!
SUBSTITUTION FOR INTER MIAMI
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAALLLLLLLLL
FCD 3-1 MIA
It’s Velasco (or is it Ibeagha?)! He’s been looking for something all night long!
Velasco’s free kick is sublimely taken, whipped in and either goes straight through to Callender or it takes a touch off the foot of Ibeagha.
Either way, Messi and company have very little time to crawl back in this one as a substitution comes on for the Herons.
Yedlin fouls to give away a free kick
Yedlin drags Marco Farfan down by the neck and does not get a card of any kind – but Dallas has a free kick
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR FC DALLAS
Kamungo, the second goal scorer, is off for the night
ON: Paul Arriola, Eugene Ansah
Sergio Busquets with the shot that goes too high
That would’ve been a heat-seeking missile from Busquets after being laid off by Messi but it goes too high.
Jesus Ferreira… what are you doing
Ferreira has a beautiful ball played straight through, with the striker one-on-one with the keeper.
But instead of trying a shot on Callender from distance, he dribbles closer and closer, allowing Kamal Miller to track him down and pick his pocket clean.
Alba goes looking for Martinez, but he misses the ball again
Martinez is now hunched over holding his knees after committing himself to that attempt.
Eventually, he gets up and returns to play.
It’s ANOTHER free header missed by Dallas
Ferreira is wholly, completely unmarked – and he puts it wide of the net to Callender’s right
Kamungo almost got himself a second!
Jordi Alba lost track of the goalscorer, who had a free header on net but pushed it wide
Inter’s Gomez misses his shot wide
Messi found Gomez in space to try the shot to equalize the game, but it rolls wide of the net
KICKOFF! We are underway for the second half
Miami trails in this competition for the first time. Will they recover?
HALFTIME: FCD 2-1 MIA
No extra time, but Dallas will be walking into the locker room happy after grabbing the late goal to take the lead.
With this opposition, nothing is a given – but Dallas could be on for a great result here if this holds for another 45 minutes.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAALLLLLLLL
FCD 2-1 MIA
The dream is alive for Dallas!
This all starts with a poor clearance in front of Paes but it’s slowly built up from Lletget to Velasco, then through to Ferreira.
Ferreira pulls back and lays it off for Kamungo who dribbles past Kryvtsov, Miller, and Callender to tap it in an take the lead over Miami
Taylor’s shot goes high for Miami
It was a lay off for the Finnish winger, but he takes it one time and sends it over the bar
Velasco’s shot drifts wide again but comes dangerously close
Dallas smells blood in the water and is now on the attack once again
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL
FCD 1-1 MIA
Messi’s countryman and fellow Newell’s Old Boys alum Facundo Quignon takes a beautiful one-time shot into the side netting and ties the game
AMAZING DOUBLE SAVE FOR DALLAS!
Robert Taylor’s first effort is snuffed out by Paes
Then, Messi’s chipped chance back in is cleanly headed away by Tafari
A third chance was hit slow and right at Paes who covers up to distribute it
Messi finds Martinez for a shot but it’s offside
Paes came well off his line to make the save anyways, but the flag goes up for offside
An offside call leads to the game’s first hydration break
This game is much like the weather it’s being played in: running hot.
Both sides have had dangerous chances and Messi’s goal is the only difference so far.
Miami gives the ball away, but is able to clean up their mistakes
Jordi Alba – in his first start – secures the ball with Callender after the mistake frm Gomez
Dallas screams for a handball after Kamungo’s cross is deflected in the box
They appear to claim that the ball went off Miller’s arm, but the referee ignores their appeals
Inter’s Diego Gomez wanted to try something
He took a shot out from over 25 yards out. He overcooked it.
Dallas corner doesn’t result in anything significant
The corner from Velasco is cleared by a strong defensive header and is settled by Callender
YELLOW CARD – Nkosi Tafari
Tafari puts in a really hard challenge in on Josef Martinez and sends the Venezuelan striker flying to the ground
Velasco’s shot is just wide of the post
It’s a great free kick from the Dallas man and it comes so close to bending in
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLLL MIA 1-0 FCD
Whoooo boy was that an amazing goal. Who else could it have been but Lionel Messi? And on an assist from Jordi Alba to boot!
However, Martinez was standing in front of Paes in an offside position. After VAR interjected, the goal was given because Martinez didn’t quite interfere with Paes’s vision or ability to attempt to make the save.
Yet another for Lionel Messi. Unreal.
GOAL FOR FC DALLAS… but it’s called offside!
Drake Callendar had a fantastic save and Ferreria’s run to put the ball in the net with his head was just too early. The linesman raises the flag for offside.
Ferreira’s chance flashes across the mouth of goal
A great cross meets the American striker’s head, but it just goes past Callender’s right post

HOW THEY GOT HERE: Inter Miami CF
Well, there’s one big reason (or rather, a little reason) why they’re here and it’s this guy they just got that you may not have heard of named Lionel Andres Messi.
In his first appearance with the club, Messi scored a worldie of a free kick to down Cruz Azul – then followed that up with a brace against Eastern Conference foes Atlanta United.
Messi got two more goals against fellow Floridians Orlando City – bringing his total up to five goals in three matches in the United States.
Praise should also be heaped onto Finnish star Robert Taylor – who managed three goals and two assists for himself in three starts.
HOW THEY GOT HERE: FC Dallas
After drawing their first game against Charlotte FC – earning a sole point – Dallas scored early on in what became a 3-0 win over Necaxa.
In the Round of 32 against Liga MX side Mazatlan, Dallas traded goals via a penalty in the 48th minute for FCD followed by a 57′ strike from Mazatlan.
But substitute Eugene Ansah saved the day for the Hoops to set up this matchup tonight.
